Start of the season from 10-12 July at the Salzburgring

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

Due to the Corona pandemic, the Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup has fixed a revised racing calendar for the 2020 season. Six races are planned for the time being, but the principle still applies that all dates require the approval of the local authorities. We start from 10th to 12th July on the Salzburgring. The race track at the gates of the city of Mozart marks the beginning, after the race on the Red Bull Ring was cancelled in mid-May. "The organizer presented a hygiene concept for the Salzburgring, which finally met with the approval of the authorities. For weeks they worked on it. Of course, the health of the drivers and teams, but also of all employees and helpers of the organizer is still our top priority", says coordinator Franz Wöss.

Red Bull Ring season opener cancelled

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

The season opener of the Drexler Formula Cup, which was planned for May 15-17, has been cancelled. On Friday (24.04.) the organizer of the Circuit Trophy informed all series and participants that no event will be held on the Formula 1 circuit in mid-May. Due to the restrictions caused by the Corona pandemic in Austria, race director Gerhard Leeb had already had a bad feeling in the last few weeks whether the traditional event could take place in Styria. "The top priority is of course the safety for all fans, for the teams and active participants and our own organisation team", says Leeb. He was not only concerned with the safety regulations on and off the track. The majority of the participants of the expected race series would have come from abroad, which is not feasible under the current travel regulations across Europe. The program at the Red Bull Ring was really well set up, not only because of the free entry. With the TCR Europe, MAXX Formular, Audi R8 LMS Cup, P9 Challenge as well as the Drexler Formula Cup and the Renault Twingo and Clio Cup the programme was interesting and varied for the fans. The Moto "Motorsport at your fingertips" has been close to the organiser's heart for years and the fans thank him again and again with their visit. They can look forward to the coming year, when the next Leeb Rundstreckentrophy is planned for May 2021. For the Drexler Formula Cup the Salzburgring on June 12th - 14th is now announced as a possible season opener. But you don't have to be a prophet to put a big question mark over the event. "We are in contact with the organizer every week and also know that they are trying to find alternative dates. To date, the event has not yet been officially cancelled," says coordinator Franz Wöss.

Danny Luderer gets into Formula 3

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

news02Danny Luderer is currently preparing for his premiere season in the Drexler Formula Cup. The trained roof plumber is at home in Vogtland, Saxony, and will be driving a Formula 3 for the first time in 2020. Over the winter months, the Formula 3 racing car has been prepared. Luderer is really looking forward to the season and wants to play a good role in the field. Last year he was able to gain a lot of circuit experience in Formula Renault and won the Carbonia Cup, where he was able to prevail against the predominantly younger competition in the end. Although he has always followed motorsport with great interest and took his first steps in drifting, driving a race car came as a complete surprise to the 48-year-old. Luderer was given a test drive in the Formula Renault in Most as a gift. After the initial first few kilometres, the Grünbach driver immediately found the Monoposti to his liking with plenty of driving pleasure. Now a new challenge is waiting for him with his entry into the Drexler Formula Cup. "I am already looking forward to the start of the season", says the Grünbach driver. However, when and where this will take place in 2020 is not yet clear. The corona pandemic will continue to test the patience of motorsport.

Thomas Amweg returns with the Ex-Vettel Formula 3

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

news01Although the Corona pandemic is currently hitting the headlines in motorsport, all race series are busy with a (still) possible season preparation. Patience is still needed and nobody knows when the times will change again. The Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup announces the comeback of Swiss Thomas Amweg. The ex-champion from the 2014 REMUS Formula Cup returns to the circuit this season and will only be seen at selected events on the mountain. Amweg completed his last circuit racing season in 2015 and, with the support of his sponsor PHIMMO, switched to mountain racing, where his father Fredy Amweg has celebrated countless successes in the past. "We had a great time on the mountain," says Amweg. With the Lola B99/50 F3000 Thomas Amweg has gained a lot of experience and in 2019 he finished among the top 3. Now the ex-Formula 3 champion is back on the circuit. The Dallara 305 Mercedes will be used. Exactly with this vehicle Sebastian Vettel 2006 his Formula 3 season took place. Sebastian Buemi drove the Formula 3 racer one year later. "We have always maintained the car and it would be a pity not to move the car. The Vettel family has always been very interested in buying the car, but it is still with us today," reveals Thomas Amweg. With the help of Jo Zeller Racing, everything was brought up to date and a competitive set-up for the possible season opener at Red Bull Ring was installed. "I hope the season can start soon despite the difficult situation. I'm not only looking forward to the time chase on the track. I'll also enjoy the hours before and after because I've always enjoyed the family environment in the series," says Thomas Amweg.
