The traffic light turns green at the Salzburgring

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

Next weekend (11th - 12th July) the Drexler Formula Cup starts into the 2020 season and the Corona pandemic has put the whole motor sport to a great test in the last months. Now it finally starts at the motorsport festival. The anticipation among the teams and drivers is accordingly large. After the lockdown, the Salzburgring will start with a racing highlight not far from the festival city of Salzburg. The 4.255 kilometres long Salzburgring is one of the fastest race tracks in the calendar of the Drexler Formula Cup. 2016 was the last time that Formula 3, Formula Renault and Formula 4 raced between the Nockstein bend and the paddock curve. The winner at that time was Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing), who leads the field of participants in the Drexler Formula Cup in 2020 and wants to continue the successes of the previous year.

With returnee Thomas Amweg (Jo Zeller Racing) as well as Thomas Aregger and Kurt Böhlen (both Franz Wöss Racing) the main competitors of the title defender also come from Switzerland. The premiere of the German Danny Luderer, who has switched to Formula 3, will be very exciting. New to the field is the Bulgarian Nikolay Takev, for whom the Salzburgring is new territory. Formula Renault is led by the vice champion Dr. Norbert Groer, who is eagerly awaiting the start of the season with the champion team of Team Hoffmann Racing. Patrick Schober (Procar Motorsport) has a home race at the Salzburgring and wants to be at the top of Formula 4. With Sebastian Freymuth, Schober has a competitor who can drive on a par with the Austrian. While there will be free practice sessions on Friday (10.07.) at the Salzburgring, the two qualifying sessions on Saturday (11.07.) will take place at about 10:30 and 14:15. On Sunday (12.07.) the traffic light for the first run will turn green at 10:20 am. At 14:10 hrs the second run will take place. At the Salzburgring, it's not just about points in the Drexler Formula Cup in the Formula 3, Formula Renault and Formula 4 categories: points are also awarded in the SWISS Formula 3 Cup, which is reserved for participants from Switzerland. The FIA Zone Championship and the Austrian National Racing Car Championship as well as the Racing Car Cup will also start into the season with the Motorsports Festival. For the Drexler Formula Cup there is no breather after the season start. Already one week after that (17.-19.07) they meet in Mugello, Italy for the second round.
