Nico Gruber joins the ADAC TCR Germany

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

Formula Renault Champion Nico Gruber changes to ADAC TCR Germany this season. The Austrian becomes team mate of Antti Buri at Hyundai Team Engstler. While Buri will fight for the championship in the Hyundai i30 N TCR, Gruber is hoping to fight for the rookie title. After the successful season in the Drexler Formula Cup, the 18-year-old young driver can be trusted to do so. Gruber caused a sensation in TCR Malaysia and won his first race at Sepang in January. "We are happy that drivers from the Drexler Formula Cup manage to attract attention with successes. We still see ourselves as a platform for the young drivers whose career path should open up" says Franz Wöss. Gruber follows in the footsteps of Luca Stolz (GER), Nikolaj Rogivue (SUI), Christopher Höher (AUT) or Jakup Smiechowski (POL), who have made the leap into international GT and prototype racing and were successful in the Drexler Formula Cup and REMUS Formula Cup for several years. Nowadays it is not possible to follow a hundred percent automatic development of young drivers coming from formula sport. Especially the formula sport has had to cope with a radical change due to the dissolution of many national racing series from 2013 onwards, especially in Formula 3. This has led to many drivers deciding to pursue a career in GT or touring car racing. Between the current Formula 4 and the FIA Formula 3 alone there are worlds apart financially. "We continue to offer a manageable financial environment and drive on internationally renowned race tracks. I think that as Drexler Formula Cup we make a good contribution to the learning process that young people go through", says coordinator Franz Wöss.
