Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

The Autodromo "Enzo e Dino Ferrari" invites to the second round of the Drexler Formula Cup next weekend (21.-23.04.2023). In cooperation with the Zinox F2000 Italian Trophy, the Drexler Formula Cup will race once again in Italy after the season opener at Mugello, before the third round at the Hungaroring a week later. Imola is the next round for the Italian championships and the race program is accordingly outstanding. The TCR Italy Touring Car Championship, the Italian Formula 4 Championship, as well as the Formula Regional Championship by Alpine and the Championato Italiano Sport Prototipi will do the honors on the Formula 1 track at the ACI Racing Weekend. After the great season opener at Mugello, Imola will once again feature a cracker of a field with over 30 formula cars competing in the Drexler Formula Cup. "For Imola, the interest of the teams is even greater. We had a very good start to the season at Mugello," says coordinator Franz Wöss.

Benjamin Berta and Juju Noda win at season opener

At the first meeting of the Drexler Formula Cup in the still young season Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) and Juju Noda ( Noda Racing) could celebrate the opening victories. For the two youngsters, it was a dream come true to leave a whole series of established Formula 3 drivers behind them in the field of 34 cars. Of course, the victory of Japan's Juju Noda, who once again proved her talent in Formula racing and proved to be really competitive right from the start after switching from Formula Regional to Formula 3, outweighed all the others. Qualifying on the 5.245-kilometer circuit in Tuscany was dominated by Francesco Simonazzi ( BVM Racing), who, however, used the weekend for a test session and, as a guest starter, was not included in the official classification. Juju Noda reeled off 10 laps in qualifying and secured second place ahead of Paolo Brajnik (NV Racing), who in turn was able to relegate Marco Falci to fourth. Benjamin Berta and Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) did not fare as well, finishing sixth and eighth respectively.

Season start in Tuscany

The Drexler Formula Cup starts its 10th season in Mugello. At the end of 2012, the FIA announced the end of the national Formula 3 championships. One of the leading teams at that time was called Austria Formula 3 Cup, which had to stop its sporting ambitions virtually overnight. But there were patrons and sponsors of the Formula 3 scene even back then. The Remus Formula Cup was the next step. After that, with the support of Drexler-Automotive GmbH from Salzweg in Bavaria, the current Formula Sprint Series was successfully continued and established as one of the most attractive Formula Series in Europe. Due to the cooperation with the ZINOX F2000 Trophy, which presents the Formula 3 scene in Italy, the Drexler Formula Cup can also offer a top-class calendar this season. The first stop this year is Mugello (March 24-25, 2023). Last year, the 5.245-kilometer race track in Tuscany hosted the finale, and if you will, the start of the season fits in seamlessly.

Fine-tuning the class division

Drexler Automotive Formula Cup

Why not stick to the tried and tested in many respects? This is the credo under which the Drexler Formula Cup enters the new season, which starts on the last weekend in March in Mugello, Italy. The purely technical regulations for the vehicles remain unchanged from last year. But there is a new class division. "We have discussed this step for a long time in our organization and from this year we want to take the new path with only three classification classes," says coordinator Franz Wöss. This will give the teams the chance to participate in the Drexler Formula Cup with very different formula cars, especially on the engine side. The rule will remain that the teams are free to choose their tire brand and that two sets of slick tires will be available each weekend. The new class to the formula 3 Cup will place itself as spearhead of the formula racing series. Formula 3 cars built between 2012 and 2018 with an air intake of 28 mm are eligible here. Also eligible to start are the F320 with Toyota Moren with max. 31 mm air intake, as well as the Formula 3 cars with VW Power Engine, the Formula Master cars and the Tatuus race cars from Formula Regional. The differences in performance are equalized by the minimum weights of the cars.
