Facts and figures in the Corona Year

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

When the Corona Pandemic at the end of March of this year also found its way into Europe, motor sports was affected in addition to normal public life in the countries. Numerous cancellations and postponements of events were the result. Nobody knew in the spring like it continues to go. All hoped for improvement or even all-clear. But the pandemic should accompany us until today. The original schedule of seven events in the Drexler Formula Cup was reduced to six weekends due to the cancellation of the Circuit Trophy at the Red Bull Ring. After the end of the season, it can be said that the Drexler Formula Cup has driven quite well through the motorsport year 2020. The hygiene and infection regulations in the individual countries were a great challenge for motorsport as a whole. The number of participants in the series partly decreased, also the economic situation of many medium-sized companies forced them to make savings. Sponsorship money was cut or even suspended. "After the final in Monza, we can say that it was a difficult year looking back on the season. Our thanks go to the teams and pilots, as well as to the sponsors, who enabled us to carry out this difficult season. The same goes for the organizers, who, with the help of the local authorities, tried to get the best out of it for the realization of motor sport events, even if it sometimes seemed as if we had some chaotic days ahead of us", says coordinator Franz Wöss. A total of 27 pilots from 10 nations competed in the five special stages. This underlines the importance of the Drexler Formula Cup.

First race win for Thomas Aregger

Drexler Automotive Formula Cup - Monza (ITA)

The season of the Drexler Formula Cup ended with two turbulent races in Monza. Together with the Top Jet F.2000 Italy Trophy, the team presented itself at the finale with a field of over 30 formula cars. In Monza of all places Thomas Aregger (Franz Wöss Racing) made himself the best present with his first Formula 3 victory. The Swiss, who was already vice-champion, profited in the 1st run from the bad luck of his compatriot Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing). He steered into the pits on lap seven and did not resume the race afterwards. A longer safety car phase had torn the race apart because a Formula 4 car had spread oil on the track. Behind Thomas Aregger, Andrea Benalli (Pure Sport) and Marco Minelli (AM Sport), two pilots from the Top Jet series, finished second. On Sunday morning Sandro Zeller restored the ranking in Formula 3 at the 2nd race. Although Aregger held the pole, he could not really get dangerous for Sandro Zeller during the 13 lap chase. In addition, he came off badly from the start and like all drivers he had to fight with the outside temperatures because the tires didn't get the desired grip. After a safety car period in the middle of the race, Sandro Zeller, lying in the lead, was not surprised by the competition and crossed the finish line as winner with a 5.223 second lead, ahead of Thomas Aregger and Franco Cimarelli (Facondini Racing), who fought a duel worth seeing. In the Formula 4 Benjamin Berta (Gender Racing) took a double victory and became champion in front of Patrick Schober (Procar Motorsport), while Oliver Michl (Gender Racing) caught up with Dr. Norbert Groer in the final race in Monza with a double victory. Thus the victory in the valuation of the formula Renault went like in the formula 4 to Hungary. Although Urs Rüttimann (Jo Zeller Racing) won the Formula 3 Trophy twice, the already established champion Prof. Dr. Ralph Pütz (Franz Wöss Racing) could not be pushed from his throne. Pütz underlined his constant performance in the 2020 season with two second places in Monza.

Strong field for the finale on the traditional Formula 1 track

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Monza (ITA)

Two weeks after the penultimate race weekend at the Hungaroring, the Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup is coming to its sixth round in Monza (November 6-8). The finale will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. In Formula 3, Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) has already been crowned champion. It is his fifth title in a row.
Most recently, the Drexler Formula Cup in Hungary started with a mini-field. Corona conditionally the drivers from Italy and Switzerland preferred not to be there. At the final in Monza this weekend, the Drexler Formula Cup will be racing together with the TOPJET F.2000 Italy Trophy for the third time this season. These are also the reasons why one can expect a large field of participants on the Formula 1 circuit. The organizer of the ACI (Automobile Club d`Italia) has been able to fulfill all corona measures provided by the authorities. The program includes three "high-caliber" cars from the Italian circuit scene: GT-Endurance, TCR Italy and the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia. "We think to have more than 30 cars at the start and want to experience a worthy end of the season in probably the most difficult year in the history of our series", says coordinator Franz Wöss. The old and new champion Sandro Zeller would like to add another double victory to his successful season. Behind him, Thomas Aregger (Franz Wöss Racing) has established himself, who wants to take the runner-up title in his first Formula 3 year at Monza. For Prof.Dr.Ralph Pütz it will certainly be difficult to defend his current third place. The champion in the Formula 3 Trophy classification, who has also already been confirmed, will have to watch out for his pursuers Daniel Tapinos and Luca Iannaccone (both Franz Wöss Racing), who are also hoping for third place in the overall classification. Formula 3 is strongly represented in the driver field with a good 25 cars. In Formula 4, Benjamin Berta (Gender Racing) wants to make the sack final and has moved into the role of favorite. It remains to be seen whether Dr. Norbert Groer can win the title in Formula Renault. Oliver Michl (Gender Racing) also has a good chance to win it.

On Friday (06.11.) the qualifying for the Drexler Automotive Formula Cup at 15.30 is scheduled. The 1st race takes place on Saturday (07.11.) at 12.00 o'clock. On Sunday (08.11.) the 2nd race will take place at 9.00 am.
